My Superhero Power

There has to be a way

Some are creators, some are improvers. Both are innovators, but they play different roles. And while not mutually exclusive, we probably identify more with one versus the other. Similarly, in the kitchen, I believe most of us are either chefs or bakers. I can cook (rather decently), but I’m most definitely a baker. While I can create, improvement comes more naturally to me.

I am also an observer and collector. I collect (or curate) ideas and inspiration. I glean from the best (or my favorites) and apply what I know. I do this with baking, and use the same approach to web design, development, sales landing pages, email campaigns, etc.

One of my greatest strengths is my persistence when it comes to solving problems. I hate telling my clients that something is not possible. I approach every problem with “there has to be way.” Of course there are times when the solution exceeds my knowledge and skill set and I will tell you, “I’m not your girl.” I have even fired myself from a project after spending 20+ hours without charging my client a single penny, because I was hired to solve a problem but I couldn’t.*

I find the greatest joy in solving business problems through the use of technology and debugging (basically, making things work). In fact, pre-MBA, I was a programmer (in a different language), and here I am again over a dozen years post-MBA. If you are looking for someone to create a website with the flashiest, splashiest design, I’m probably not your girl.

But if you are a small business with a website you created years ago (because everyone’s doing it, right?) that just sits there and does nothing to draw in new clients or customers (or catch their eye), or fails to build awareness around your business because you’re hanging out on page 15 in Google’s search results, and you feel like you need to do something about it but don’t really know how, then I’m your girl. Or, maybe they have found you, but can’t read your site on their phone because the text is too small? If you have decided it’s time to modernize and optimize your site experience, then I’m your girl.

Yes, I design websites, but my superhero power is actually taking something that exists and making it better. I consider myself an improver, an observer, a collector, and above all, a learner, so I’ve created this space to grow myself in the area of design. Here I will post different designs I like, and in some cases, inspiration for new skills to learn. It will give you a sense of my aesthetics and my general approach to web design. You want Functional. Clean. Minimalist, but Friendly design? You want a website that works for you? I’m your girl.

* This story has a happy ending! My client came back to me later with a different project, and with new skills under my belt, I solved the original problem. I knew there had to be a way! 😉
